• 1501 Uptown Gastropub (⭐ 4.5) — 1501 N Palm Canyon Dr — Mon–Thu 11am–9pm, Fri 11am–10pm, Sat 10am–10pm, Sun 10am–9pm. One of the best all-around bars in PS. Huge wrap-around patio with mountain views, great beer selection, solid food, and all-day happy hour in the lounge ($6 beers, $8 wells). The 1501 burger is a must. • Bongo Johnny's Patio Bar & Grill (⭐ 4.4) — 301 N Palm Canyon Dr — Daily 8am–8/9pm. Second-floor bar and grill with two patios overlooking Palm Canyon Drive. Open from 8am making it one of the best day-drinking spots downtown. Great burgers, Bloody Marys, and people-watching. https://bongojohnnys.com/ 

• Blackbook (⭐ 4.4) — 315 E Arenas Rd — Daily 12pm–12am. Casual neighborhood bar with a dog-friendly patio strung with lights. Known as an "inclusion bar" with a welcoming vibe. • Boozehounds (⭐ 4.4) — 2080 N Palm Canyon Dr — Mon–Thu 8am–10pm, Fri 8am–11pm, Sat–Sun 10am–10/11pm. Already on the itinerary for Thursday happy hour but worth noting for day drinking too. • High Bar (⭐ 4.3) — 100 W Tahquitz Canyon Way (Kimpton Rowan Hotel, 7th floor) — Daily 10am–10pm. The highest rooftop bar in downtown Palm Springs with panoramic mountain views. • Rooftop 262 (⭐ 3.9) — 262 S Palm Canyon Dr — Mon–Wed & Sun 11am–10pm, Thu–Sat 11am–2am. Rooftop bar right in the heart of downtown with big screens showing sports. Good wings, nachos, and casual bar food. One of the better sports-watching spots with an outdoor view. Good for sports. https://www.rooftop262.com/ 

• Village Pub (⭐ 4.1) — 266 S Palm Canyon Dr — Mon–Thu 3pm–2am, Fri–Sun 11am–2am. Long-running downtown bar with a patio overlooking Palm Canyon. Multiple levels, lots of TVs showing sports, cheap drinks, and a lively crowd. One of the best spots for sports in a casual setting. Good for sports. https://www.thevillagepubpalmsprings.com/ 

• Bootlegger Tiki (⭐ 4.3) — 1101 N Palm Canyon Dr — Mon–Thu & Sun 3–11pm, Fri–Sat 3pm–1am. Located in the original Don the Beachcomber space from 1953. Two landscaped patios, strong tiki cocktails made from scratch, and old Hollywood history. Reservations recommended — it fills up fast. https://www.bootleggertiki.com/ 

Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

The world's largest rotating tram car, traveling 2.5 miles up the cliffs of Chino Canyon in about 10 minutes. You start in the Sonoran Desert at 2,643 feet and arrive at the Mountain Station at 8,516 feet — a gain of nearly 6,000 feet. The car rotates slowly during the ride giving everyone 360° views. It's typically 25–30 degrees cooler at the top, so bring a layer even in April.

Tickets

Book tickets in advance online. Walk-up wait times can hit 2+ hours on weekends. Trams depart at least every 30 minutes.

At the Mountain Station (8,516 ft)

• The Lookout Lounge — Full cocktail bar on the same level as the restaurants. Beers, wines, cocktails, and appetizers with incredible views. The obvious move after a hike. 11am - 8:30pm.

• Cascade Café — Snack bar with sandwiches, pizza, coffee, and drinks. Outdoor seating on the Cascade Patio with views of the tram cars and Johnson Falls.

Also at the top: observation decks, a natural history museum, two documentary theaters, an adventure center, and a gift shop.

Hiking Trails from the Mountain Station

All trails begin by descending a paved path from the Mountain Station to Long Valley (where the ranger station, picnic tables, and restrooms are). A free wilderness permit is required for trails beyond Long Valley — pick one up at the ranger station. No dogs allowed on any trails.

• Desert View Trail — 1.5 miles, moderate loop. Leads to several scenic overlooks and forest views with some short climbs. The most popular casual hike and the one to do if you have 1–2 hours. Outstanding views of the Coachella Valley.

• Round Valley Trail — 2.5 miles one way, moderate. Fairly level with some short climbs, leading to a picturesque alpine meadow at 9,100 feet. Allow 2–3 hours round trip. Beautiful in spring with wildflowers and deer.
